About
Alberto Aquilina is an architect and set designer based in Malta and the UK.
His work explores the relationship between design and communal joy, drawing inspiration from his childhood in Malta, particularly the cultural summer festivals. Alberto, who has a developed architectural background, recognises the importance of space. This enables a more focused and expressive design, which benefits both the performer and the audience. Sketching, model making (both physical and digital), 2D drafting, and digital graphics convey concepts from thorough research into potential design and staging for theatre, music and events.
He designed the set for Playhouse Creatures at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Alberto previously earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Built Environment Studies from the University of Malta and recently graduated from an MA in Design for Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
